  1.  he obviously knows what he is doing, but in no way do i feel any more educated or capable to tackle this task myself. went too fast, used terms without explaining what they mean and camera man didn't get good shots at how he was cutting the trim.

  2. Most professionals do cope the corners … and to do so you need to still make the same cut on one of the pieces as you would if you were doing the miter (on the other piece you run it straight to the wall). I agree though, if you are using a paint grade molding it is quicker and easier to just do the mitered cuts and fill any gap with caulking.

  4. I am not a pro, but I did have one come over for 1/2 hour, best advice ever……..make a jig, to keep the wood in place at the correct angle (just like it would sit on the wall, remember each crown molding is different), from there all you have to do is cut inside right, outside right, inside left and outside left cuts (some are yes upside down) easiest way ever. (I have the compound mitre saw) but did not need to use it, just cut 45's (22-1/2s) if required. NO BOOK OR VIDEO SHOWS THIS>>>>!!!

  5. The wall is 45? I thought it's around 90 most of the time. But if he misspoke, then 22.5 definitely confirm the 45 part. That's strange. The measurement is so quick, the guy may as well say it. Measure the length from here to there. Unless there is a tip or two into it. Really lame video.

  6. I was starting to "get it" but this video wiped out all the knowledge I had gained up to this point. I have to start over and make sure not to watch this video. I will know that it is the one that messed me up when I see my own name in the Comments part. I cannot cope with this confusing tutorial.

  7. @dax000ah I started to disagree with you but you have a point. If the audience of the video was for the average weekend do it your selfer then this video missed on completeness. Not to mention the average guy isn't going to have a 12" compound miter saw. However if he did then the video never explains how to set the saw up for the miter angle. I believe is that this is a sales engine for Home Depot and not a tutorial on crown molding. I'm a furniture builder with a CS degree.

  8. Duh. As a pro carpenter, what do you expect from the Big Orange Greed Machine…a video that actually explains something? And does that guy -really- have to wear his orange apron way up there in rural BumFuckEgypt? I'm willing to bet HE feels like a real horses ass after learning the entire world gets to view his $11.75 hr. mug wearing that silly outfit! (snicker snicker) But seriously, kudos to HD – they succeeded in finding three people who used to ride the short yellow bus – with helmets on.

  9. Yeah this is a terrible video. The things they need to show, they're not showing.. and over talking and complicating everything else. I finished this video more confused.

  11. Attention happy home owners notice this video starts with "watch how Blake Thomas, a pro at trim work…" some things are worth paying a professional to do and this is one of them unless your already familiar with making compound miter cuts. If not, say this over and over "Putty and paint makes it what it aint"
